Don't let anyone tell you that registered dogs don't need rescued. My sister and I rescued a blonde AKC Dachshund male a few years back. He was so thin, it hurt him when you picked him up. We had to put weight on him before the vet would dare vaccinate him. Their pug, though, was huge. Someone told them to feed him as a mini, and the pug was eating what little he got. When they're that thin, their system will turn in on itself and start consuming protein, which often results in brain damage. We had him neutered as soon as possible. After about 3 years, we had to put him to sleep. He became vicious towards us and we think brain damage. His last 3 years were great, though. We are a small hobby breeder, and he was played with in our huge courtyard, until he got to the point that it was dangerous. That was when my vet did the deed. It was hard to watch him become a very healthy, vibrant dog and then turn into a vicious, snarling dog. I know it wasn't his fault, and I never have blamed him. I just wish owners would find out more about dogs before they get one. Nutrition is important to them, as it is to us.
