Do any of you have a good suggestion for desensatizing my Boxer for showing? He is so ticklish that when the Judge does the hands on part, he just wiggles all over- which they frown on for some reason We have tried massage, random touch, nothing seems to help. Do you have any ideas? Thanks so much for any help you can give!! boxermama

have you tried clicker training? this is a problem for a lot of dogs and clicker training works great. It'll work for all aspects of showing - head tilt, giving ears, tail wag, free stacking etc. You don't say how old your boxer is, if it's a puppy keep working, they'll get the idea eventually but clicker training will speed up the process. good luck! let me know how it goes.

I LOVE the clicker for teaching new things ...it works really well and it's quick. Timmy learned to self stack in under 6 minutes with the clicker. I bring it out every now and again just to reinforce the behavior. If you don't have a clicker...use your tongue to make the click sound. Have your dog stand, then click and reward with a treat (small treats)...then have him stand and touch his head...click and treat (only if he stands still). Keep progressing until you can step in and touch his back, shoulders, rear, and then run your hands over him. It may take you a bit of time, it's the 'getting started' that takes the time Just be patient and make it fun for the doggy. Anne

This sure is a boxer trait, they just love the attention. I suggest the use of "HAPPY LEGS" training stilts. They are very effective at both teaching your dog to stack properly and stay put once stacked. I find that working with them a little right before ring time greatly improves ring performance.
