Walking His Dog While Driving

by K9Ring March 05, 2010 13:26

A man from England decided to take laziness to another level. Paul Railton got his driver's license suspended for 6 months after he walked his dog while driving his car. He got 3 demerit points on top of 6 that he previously had, so his 9 points led to the suspension of his driver's license. He was driving at 5 mph on a quiet street but despite his excuse, he was deemed not to have had proper control of the vehicle as he was walking his dog next to his car. We thought that texting and driving was a bad enough idea, but this guy took irresponsibility to a whole new level. We hope that this will teach some common sense others who may have thought of trying such a thing.

Having a dog walk next to your car is not only dangerous for your dog, but also to other drivers sharing the same road as you. If you are so lazy that you cannot and do not want to walk your dog, then do not get a dog, period.

Walking your dog should be a fun activity that is good for both your dog's health and your health, and not something that is done just because your dog must walk. In addition, walking your dog can eliminate many problems your dog may have including obesity, boredom, and bad behavior. Walking your dog twice a day for 30 min to 1 hour will make your dog a lot calmer and happier when you come back home as he will be able to drain some of that excess energy and socialize with other dogs and people.

The World's Tallest Dog in 2010

by K9Ring February 22, 2010 17:41

Guinness World Records says a Great Dane in the U.S. standing 3 feet, 7 inches (1.09 metres) tall from paw to shoulder is the tallest dog ever on record. He is 7 feet, 3 inches tall when 'standing' on his back legs! If the NBA needed a tall center, he could surely lend some help.

Giant George, who lives in Tuscon, is three-quarters of an inch (2 centimetres) taller than his closest rival - Titan, a white Great Dane from San Diego.

Before Titan, the record was held by another Great Dane, Gibson, of Grass Valley, California, who stood at 42.2 inches tall but passed away from bone cancer last year.

Guinness officials say there were conflicting reports about Giant George's height, so they sent a judge to verify it.

Days after he was declared a record-breaker, Giant George appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show.

The 4-year-old, 250-pound (115-kilogram) blue Great Dane is owned by Christine and David Nasser. He sleeps in his own queen-size bed and consumes 110 lb of food each week.

Best In Show Winner of 2010 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

by K9Ring February 18, 2010 10:52

The Best In Show winner of the 134th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is Ch Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot, a 4-year-old Scottish Terrier called Sadie. Judge Elliot Weiss said: "This is the complete dog ... That's what you want a Scottie to look like." He continued with saying: "Her breed character is fabulous — she thinks very highly of herself. Her coat is absolutely breathtaking."

Sadie's win was not a surprise. Unlike Stump, the last year's best in show winner, Sadie was the favorite for the best in show honors. She was the #1 ranked dog in the country going into the competition, followed by the Doberman as the #2 ranked dog.

Sadie made history by joining scores of other terriers as the winningest group in WKC history. Terriers won nearly half of the events since the show began.

The final round featured a protest just as the Doberman finished her showing. Two women rushed to center stage, holding signs over their heads. One said, “Mutts Rule”, a reference to the "Dogs rule" ad campaign that has run throughout the competition. The second said, “Breeders Kill Shelter Dogs.”

This year's competition saw 2,500 entrants representing 173 breeds and varieties. Other breeds vying for the big prize on Tuesday were a Toy Poodle, a Puli, a Whippet, a French Bulldog and a Brittany.

Watch the video below of the final round of competition:

American Bulldog Has 21 Puppies!

by K9Ring November 04, 2009 20:22

American Bulldog named Daisy Mae gave birth to 21 puppies in Illinois. Seventeen of them were born healthy and four died during delivery. When you consider that the size of an average litter is 5 to 6 puppies, then 17 puppies is certainly an unusually large number.

It took more than 20 hours for Daisy Mae to deliver all of the puppies. The father of the puppies is a Bulldog named Groucho who belongs to a friend of the Daisy Mae's family. Daisy's owner, Shari Ballard, said that she will not breed her anymore and that she will retire from breeding after this strenuous delivery. Shari admits that her family's intention was to breed Daisy and sell the puppies. After seeing how many puppies they got, she plans to give some, if not all, of the puppies away for free to anyone willing to take good care of them. After all, when you have 17 puppies, it is hard keeping them all to yourself. Wink

The puppies are now 6 weeks old and soon will be ready to be placed in good homes.

On a side note, the largest number of puppies ever recorded in a litter was from a Neopolitan Bull Mastiff called Tia, in Manea in Cambridgeshire. Tia gave birth to 24 puppies in 2005 and currently holds the record for most puppies born in a litter and the largest number of surviving puppies! Four of the puppies died after delivery from being too weak but the other twenty were healthy and in great shape.

The World’s Most Expensive Dog

by K9Ring September 17, 2009 23:25
World's Most Expensive Dog

A young millionaire woman from China, known only as Ms. Wang, bought a Tibetan Mastiff for 4 million yuan or $582,000. This is the most expensive dog bought to date. Ms. Wang traveled to Qinghai province of northwest China to purchase the 18-month old dog. She named him Yangtze River Number Two. Yangtze came home at Xi’an airport in China’s Shaanxi province, where he was reportedly greeted by hordes of dog lovers and picked up on September 9 by a motorcade of 30 black Mercedes-Benz cars.

A woman, identified by only the surname Wang, poses with her $582,000 dog as they are greeted by a convoy of 30 black Mercedes-Benz cars at the airport in Xi'an, in China's Shaanxi province, on September 9, 2009.

Gold has a price, but this Tibetan Mastiff doesn’t,” she was quoted saying to Chinese publications on her return home. Tibetan Mastiffs are a fairly rare breed and typically cost about $2,000 in North America. They are more expensive in China where they are valued for their skills as guard dogs.

Ms. Wang has plans to mate Yangtze with another Tibetan Mastiff that she owns, according to Chinese reports.

A family in Florida previously held the record for the most expensive dog. The family paid $155,000 for a Labrador named Lancelot Encore, which was a clone of their dead dog, Lancelot.
