Guinness World Records says a Great Dane in the U.S. standing 3 feet, 7 inches (1.09 metres) tall from paw to shoulder is the tallest dog ever on record. He is 7 feet, 3 inches tall when 'standing' on his back legs! If the NBA needed a tall center, he could surely lend some help.
Giant George, who lives in Tuscon, is three-quarters of an inch (2 centimetres) taller than his closest rival - Titan, a white Great Dane from San Diego.
Before Titan, the record was held by another Great Dane, Gibson, of Grass Valley, California, who stood at 42.2 inches tall but passed away from bone cancer last year.
Guinness officials say there were conflicting reports about Giant George's height, so they sent a judge to verify it.
Days after he was declared a record-breaker, Giant George appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show.
The 4-year-old, 250-pound (115-kilogram) blue Great Dane is owned by Christine and David Nasser. He sleeps in his own queen-size bed and consumes 110 lb of food each week.
